Hell Clock, one of my favorite indie roguelike action RPGs in the last few years, found a way to take the appeal of limited-time Diablo seasons and make them permanent—no FOMO involved.
Its "Journeys" work much like Diablo and Path of Exile's seasons/leagues by transforming a normal run through the game with new toys to play with, but they won't disappear after a few months. The newest Journey, the Journey of Miracles, is now freely available for anyone who owns the game.
With the Journey of Miracles toggled on, you'll be able to earn powerful buffs for each run whenever you find a statue and survive the juiced up combat encounters they unleash. Some of these Divine Blessings you can grab are absurdly strong, like one that gives you the benefits of a Shrine (eg, extra movement speed, bonus XP gain, etc) by simply drinking a potion. There's a full list of what each one grants you on the Steam page, and I can tell some of them are designed to enable builds that weren't possible before.
Hell Clock isn't quite your typical action RPG. You can equip gear, but the bulk of your character's power comes from their Relics. Every Relic gives you stat bonuses and many of them come with unique effects that change how your abilities work. The Journey of Miracles will introduce several new Relics to the game, some of which bend existing builds in a new direction. I was a fan of the Relic that let me cover the screen in lightning bolts, but I see a new one that juices up their damage in exchange for forcing you to shoot them in a straight line.
In addition to all of that, there's a new underground crypt area with a new miniboss and a long list of patch notes. The Journey of Miracles, like the previous Journey of Nightmares, is completely optional and can be flipped on or off whenever you start a new run through the campaign. You can even play with both enabled if you want to fully embrace the chaos.
I like that there's no rush to blast through all of the new stuff before it disappears. Hell Clock is already a perfect game for playing on and off whenever you have the time to squeeze a run in, and now there's a reason to do it all over again and try a new build or two while you're at it.
